Investor's zone
The Silesian Voivodeship is the most attractive region in Poland in terms of investments, and in this respect, it is also one of the leaders in the world.
One of the reasons of the high position of Silesia is the Katowice Special Economic Zone (KSSE) which is situated in our region. KSSE has attracted direct investments worth approximately PLN 34 billion and has created 76 thousand new job vacancies as well as another jobs in the vicinity of the zone. The KSSE’s success is confirmed by the fact that it was recognized by fDi Intelligence (Financial Times Research Centre) as the best economic zone in Europe in the year 2015, 2016 and 2017.
The Silesian Voivodeship has one of the strongest economies in Poland (Silesia generates 12.3% of GDP) and is highly populated (over 4.5 mln people). It is the most urbanized area in Central and Eastern Europ and has the highest average population density and urban population indicator – almost 77%. Silesia also has one of the highest number of business support institutions. Companies and Investors are supported by them in many ways.
The traditional Silesian work ethos is the visiting card of Silesia. In this region people have worked in heavy industry for many years, among new technologies. Silesia is also a place of innovation and creative people. Nearly 2.8 million people are in their working age and over 110 thousand students guarantee large and diverse workforce as well as large and absorptive market.
The region has the densest network of highways and expressroads in the country and it borders with the Czech Republic and Slovakia. There are six European capitals within a distance of approx. 600 kilometers from Katowice (the capital of the region): Warsaw, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Vienna and Bratislava. The Euroterminal in Sławków (the westernmost terminal with a broad gauge railway) provides a direct connection to markets in Eastern Europe and Asia. The Katowice International Airport ranks first, among all regional Polish airports, in terms of cargo services.
In Silesia over 110 thousand people study in 32 institutions of higher education, 30% of students choose majors in technical education institutions. Moreover, a well-developed vocational education has always been a specificity of the region.
The tourist attractions of Silesia include the Pauline Monastery of Jasna Góra in Częstochowa, the Beskidy Mountains and the Industrial Monuments Route – the only regional route of industrial tourism in Poland.
The region is an important trade, exhibition and conference center. One of the events that is organized annually is the European Economic Congress. It is the largest business event in Central Europe which creates a space for the exchange of ideas between politicians, businessman, scientists and economic leaders.
